Award-winning rug designer’s first furniture collection

“I must confess to having a sweet tooth,” says Esti Barnes, founder of the award-winning rug brand Topfloor by Esti. Candyland, the debut collection for their new Formitura brand and Esti's first furniture collection, is a playful and practical homage to some of her favourite treats – Marshmallow, Gingerbread, Peardrop and Sugarplum.
Trained as a graphic artist in her native Istanbul, Esti founded Topfloor by Esti in 1998 and has gone on to win multiple awards from the international design world, including ‘British Design of the Year’ from Elle Decoration UK and ‘Best of Year’ from Interior Design magazine. With over two decades’ experience in design and interiors, she noticed a lack of fun, stylish and casual seating at accessible prices on the market. So Esti decided to try her expert hand at furniture and Candyland debuted at the Maison&Objet digital fair in September 2020.
The collection contains four multifunctional designs in ten versatile colours to “spice up your space”. Designed with both adults and children in mind, they are chic enough to look right at home in a nursery as well as an office, hotel or bar. Each seat is built from polyurethane foam and polyethylene, making them comfortably soft, lightweight and easy to clean. “Their wipe-clean nature also makes them particularly practical during these times,” adds Esti.
Described by Sleeper magazine as blending “intelligent design with effortless comfort and style”, the Candyland seats can be used in a variety of ways. Pillowy Marshmallow, eye-catching Peardrop or the show-stopping Gingerbread can all be used as a low seat or a footstool.
Perfect for multi-use spaces, Sugarplum includes a hidden removable ‘bucket’ – which can be used as an extra seat or additional storage, then tidied away until it is needed again.
Candyland’s material also means that the seats are UV tolerant and water resistant, making them suitable for indoor and outdoor use. In addition, they are also entirely recyclable.
Formitura’s upcoming collections will also present furniture in a variety of shapes and sizes, designed with all types of residential and commercial spaces in mind.
